RocketLab is the center’s experimental propulsion and rocketry lab, focused on advancing the fundamentals required to design, build, and test propulsion-related technologies in a safe, research-driven environment. The lab explores the end-to-end pipeline, from early concept studies and subsystem prototyping to test planning and data-driven iteration, always prioritizing safety culture and responsible engineering practices.
Core focus areas:
- Propulsion and thrust-generation concepts (research and prototyping)
- Test instrumentation, data collection, and performance characterization
- Structural and thermal considerations for propulsion-adjacent components
- Systems thinking: interfaces, integration readiness, and verification mindset

Advisor:
Dr. Gustavo Ordóñez Cárdenas is a distinguished professional in the aerospace sector, recognized for his extensive expertise in experimental rocketry, propulsion systems, and indigenous aerospace engineering. With a robust background in designing and manufacturing 100% Peruvian rockets through IDIMAR, developing cloud-seeding projectiles for environmental drought relief, and innovating in national defense technology alongside institutions like SIMA and SEMAN, he has consistently demonstrated a commitment to integrating cutting-edge aerospace technology with solutions for critical national challenges. Beyond his technical achievements, he is a passionate advocate for STEM education and technological advancement in Peru, frequently contributing to academic initiatives and experimental launch projects at universities like UNAC and UNMSM to inspire the next generation of mechanical and aerospace engineers. His work seamlessly bridges the gap between advanced academic research and practical aerospace manufacturing, making him a leading voice in the evolution of the Peruvian scientific and aerospace community.
